Although I’ve been a member of Moore Memorial Public
Library since we moved to Texas City in the early 1970s,
I always seem to be learning about services and other
great things this public library offers.
For example, are you aware of the Library Outreach
program? I just learned recently that this program is
designed to provide entertainment, information and
mental stimulation for its patrons who are unable to
physically visit the library.
Each month two of the librarians (Cheryl and Carol)
visit five facilities and the Senior Center at the Nessler
Center. The programs cover a range of topics which
are selected to engage seniors on subjects of interest,
which will trigger memories and conversation. What a
great way to keep older folks engaged in the world and
connected to others.

But wait – there’s more! The library now offers two
new FREE subscription databases for its members –
Kanopy and Encyclopedia Britannica. What’s even better
is that these can be accessed online at the library or
from the comfort and convenience of home through the
library’s website: www.texascity-library.org/.
Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video service for
public libraries. It provides access to more than 8,000
films and documentaries. It offers independent and foreign
films from genres including drama, comedy, horror
and romance as well as instructional videos ranging
from cooking to travel, and documentaries and films on
subjects and disciplines such as African, Latin American
and Middle Eastern Studies.
Encyclopedia Britannica is an interactive encyclopedia
offering three ways to obtain authoritative information
on an amazing range of topics. These ways are via the
Children’s Section, the Young Adults Section and the
Reference Center.
